A retreat for leaders, entrepreneurs and those leading from home
You don’t have to be in the boardroom to be a leader. You may be leading a team, running a business, building something of your own, holding a family together, or juggling several of these roles at once.
And when people rely on you, it can become very easy to keep going.
To push through tiredness.
To say yes when you really want to say no.
To put your own needs further down the list.
To become the person everyone turns to, while quietly becoming depleted yourself.
Permission to Pause is an opportunity to step out of that cycle.
This retreat is about creating genuine space away from the noise, expectations and everyday demands of life so you can pause, reflect and reconnect with yourself.
Because burnout doesn’t always arrive dramatically.
Sometimes it looks like being highly capable while feeling permanently tired. Being productive but increasingly irritable. Struggling to switch off. Losing enthusiasm for things you once enjoyed. Saying yes automatically. Feeling responsible for everyone else. Or simply realising that the way you have been operating is no longer sustainable.
This is your permission to stop long enough to notice.
What the retreat explores
At the heart of Permission to Pause is something I believe we often misunderstand about boundaries:
Boundaries are not walls we build around ourselves. They are the ground rules that allow us to stay connected to other people without continually disconnecting from ourselves.
During our time together, we’ll explore the relationship between leadership, responsibility, boundaries and burnout.
You’ll have space to consider:
where your energy is actually going
the expectations you place on yourself as well as those coming from others
why saying no can feel so uncomfortable
people pleasing and the need to keep everyone happy
the difference between supporting someone and carrying responsibility for them
the physical and emotional signs that tell you something needs to change
what healthy boundaries might look like in your work, business, relationships and home life
how to pause before automatically responding, agreeing or pushing through
But this isn't about giving you another list of things you should be doing.
And it certainly isn't about telling busy people that the answer to burnout is simply to practise more self-care.
It is about understanding your own patterns, recognising what is and isn't working for you, and giving yourself enough space to make conscious choices rather than continually operating on autopilot.
The power of the pause
One of the ideas that sits at the heart of my work is very simple:
There is power in the space between what happens and what you do next.
Sometimes that space is only a few seconds.
Sometimes we need a few hours.
And occasionally we need to step away from everyday life altogether.
The pause gives us an opportunity to notice what our mind and body have been trying to tell us, to question the expectations we have been living by, and to decide whether the way we are currently operating is actually the way we want to continue.
This retreat gives you that space.
There will be learning and facilitated discussion, but also reflection, connection, movement, breathing, journalling and time simply to be.
You won’t leave having transformed your entire life in a weekend.
That isn't the promise.
My hope is something more realistic, and potentially far more useful.
That you leave understanding yourself a little better, feeling more connected to what you need, and with at least one boundary you are genuinely ready to put into practice.
Because sometimes preventing burnout doesn't require changing everything.
Sometimes it starts by recognising the one thing you are no longer willing to keep doing at your own expense.
This retreat is for you if...
You are capable, responsible and used to getting things done, but lately you have started wondering what all that pushing through is costing you.
Perhaps you:
find it difficult to switch off
carry responsibility long after the working day has finished
regularly put other people's needs ahead of your own
know you need stronger boundaries but struggle to maintain them
feel guilty saying no
are tired of feeling as though everything depends on you
have noticed yourself becoming more tired, impatient, detached or overwhelmed
are doing well on paper but don't necessarily feel well
simply know you need some breathing space
You don't need to identify as burnt out to come.
In fact, the whole point is that we shouldn't have to wait until we reach burnout before giving ourselves permission to pause.
Meet Nic
Nic is a leadership development professional, facilitator, speaker and founder of Inspire Rewire, with decades of experience working in learning, leadership and personal development.
Her work brings together leadership psychology, burnout research and her own experience of what happens when capable, driven people spend too long pushing through.
With a Master’s in Psychology, Fellowship of the CIPD and training across areas including hypnotherapy, NLP, yoga, meditation and somatic practices, Nic takes an integrated approach to wellbeing and leadership, recognising that understanding something intellectually is not always enough. Sometimes the body has been telling us what the mind has been overriding.
Having delivered more than 90 retreats and hundreds of workshops, Nic creates spaces that are thoughtful, practical and human. Places where people can learn and reflect without feeling they are being told how they should live their lives.
Her TEDx talk, The Power of the Pause, explores an idea that now sits at the heart of her work: that learning to pause can change how we respond to pressure, how we relate to other people and ultimately how we lead ourselves.
Through Permission to Pause, she brings that philosophy into a deeper retreat experience, helping people explore the boundaries, behaviours and beliefs that can quietly move us towards burnout, and giving them space to consider what they would like to do differently.

You don't need to earn your pause.
You don't need to finish everything first.
You don't need to wait until everyone else is okay.
And you certainly don't need to reach breaking point before deciding something needs to change.
Sometimes the most powerful thing a person who spends their life leading, supporting and doing can do is stop.
Not forever.
Just long enough to listen.
